Dr. M. Sarfaraz Khan is a  Board Certified Adult Psychiatrist and a Child, and Adolescent Psychiatrist. Dr. Khan has focused on many different areas of psychiatry and is well versed with working with children and adolescents as well as addressing addiction and geriatric population concerns. Dr. Khan is a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the American Psychiatric Association.

Yee Yee Thein
Yee Yee Thein, MD

Board Certified Adult Psychiatrist

Dr. Yee Yee Thein is a Board Certified Adult Psychiatrist. Dr. Thein has focused on many different areas of psychiatry and is well versed with working with adolescents 17 years of age and older. Dr. Thein completed her residency training at The University of Texas (UT) Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. She is a Board Certified Adult Psychiatrist and Assistant Professor at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas where she supervises residents and medical students. Her past clinical and practice experiences include inpatient and emergency psychiatry, diagnosis and management of Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Eating Disorder, and Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD).

Maximus Anitube, MD

Board Certified Child Psychiatrist, Board Certified Adult Psychiatrist

Dr. Maximus Anitube is a Board Certified Child Psychiatrist and a Board Certified Adult Psychiatrist. He has focused his clinical training and experience on many different areas of psychiatry and is well versed with working with children, adolescents, and adults. Dr. Anitube is a member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the American Psychiatric Association.

Babak Abbassi
Babak Abbassi, MD, MBA

Medical Operations Consultant

Dr. Babak Abbassi, holds a Masters of Business Administration degree with specialization in Health Care Management and Administration. He obtained his M.S. from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth and obtained his MBA from the University of Texas at Dallas.  He completed his Doctorate in Medicine from Texas A&M University Health Science Center. With his vast educational background and experience in health care, and Corporate America, he has served in the capacities of Operations Director and Medical and Health Care Operations Consultant.

Nazimuddin Mohammed,MD

Board Certified Adult Psychiatrist; Adult and Adolescent Psychiatrist

Dr. Mohammed is a Board Certified Adult Psychiatrist with more than 14 years of experience. He treats both common and complex psychiatric illnesses in patients who are age 11 or older. Dr. Mohammed also treats patients dealing with substance abuse issues and is able to prescribe Suboxone for outpatient opioid detox.

Dr. Mohammed completed his residency at the University of Tennessee in Memphis, where he was a chief resident and the top prite performer (a psychiatry in-service exam). He was also an affiliate assistant professor of psychiatry at Loyola Medical School in Hines, IL.

Amir Abbassi
Dr. Amir Abbassi

Clinic Director, Licensed Professional Counselor- Supervisor (LPC-S), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist-Supervisor (LMFT-S), Certified Sex Therapist

Dr. Amir Abbassi is the Clinic Director, a Licensed Professional Counselor- Supervisor (LPC-S), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist-Supervisor (LMFT-S), and a Certified Sex Therapist by the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT). Dr. Abbassi completed his doctorate degree at the University of North Texas and continues to research and teach graduate courses at a regional institution of higher education. Dr. Abbassi’s clinical background includes working with adolescents, adults, couples, and families. He is a former president of the Texas Association of Marriage and Family Counselors. He also is a Clinical member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT).

Dr. Daisy Blagg

Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Specialist in School Psychology

Dr. Blagg is a Licensed Psychologist and a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology who received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Texas School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University, Dallas. She also holds two Master’s degrees in General and Clinical Psychology. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology from the University of Texas at Dallas. After becoming a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology, she spent the following 13 years working with children, ages 2-21, diagnosing and treating a variety of learning, emotional, and behavioral disorders.

In addition to working with children and their families, Dr. Blagg completed her post-doctoral fellowship in adult neuropsychology, conducting neuropsychological evaluations for dementia, Alzheimer’s, adult ADHD, and psychological disorders. Working with families to coordinate care and accurately diagnose individuals is Dr. Blagg’s passion.

Sanaz Adibian
Dr. Sanaz Adibian

Licensed Psychologist

Dr. Adibian received her Bachelors and Masters in Psychology from The University of Houston. She completed her doctor of psychology work at Argosy University. Dr. Adibian works with adolescents and adults struggling with various disorders. She utilizes therapeutic methods such as art therapy, and the unique approach of Sufi therapy (mindfulness and self-balance) to achieve the goals of her clients. Dr. Adibian is an active member of her profession and is currently serving as the President-Elect of Collin County Psychology Association.

Mr. Jeff Quan

Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor, Mediator, EMDR Therapist, Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor-Intern, Certified Trauma Model Therapist, Certified Aggression Management Trainer, and Certified Anger Resolution Therapist

Jeff Quan is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor, Mediator, EMDR provider, Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor-Intern, Certified Trauma Model Therapist, Certified Aggression Management Trainer, and Certified Anger Resolution Therapist.

Jeff earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Professional Development from Amber University in 2001 and his Master’s Degree in Counseling from Amberton University in 2004. He is currently pursuing his PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision through Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Jeff has provided extensive therapy to trauma survivors through his clinical and private practice. Additionally, he has successfully mediated numerous cases of conflict management in various environments, including Higher Education and Hospital Administration.

Jeff is a veteran of Operation Desert Storm and enjoys spending time with his family and rescuing and caring for animals through the non-profit corporation, Petite Paws Pet Advocates, he founded with his wonderful wife, Judy.

Mr. Leza (Reza) Kazemi-Mohammadi

Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)

Mr. Leza (Reza) Kazemi-Mohammadi, M.S., is a Licensed Professional Counselor. Leza received his Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from SMU (Southern Methodist University), and is pursuing his doctoral degree in Family Studies at Texas Woman’s University. Leza works with adolescents, adult individuals, families, and couples. He strives to help individuals find meaning and motivation in their difficult life situations, using approaches including, but not limited to CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Child-Centered Therapy approaches, and Solution Focused Counseling. While working with adolescents he works hard to empower each person and increase their confidence in their abilities, so that they can stand up for their personal beliefs and rights. Leza additionally, has advanced training in sexual therapy, working with Transgender, Transsexual and other LGBT community members.


Ryan Smith
Dr. Ryan Smith

Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)

Dr. Ryan Smith, is a is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). He currently serves in the position of Chapter Liaison of the board of the Texas Association of Marriage and Family Counselors. Ryan received his Master’s in counseling and his Ph.D. from Texas A&M University-Commerce. In addition to his counseling work, Ryan spent eight years as a public school teacher at both the middle school and high school levels. He has extensive clinical experience working with the parents of school-age children who struggle behaviorally and academically to establish family-based solutions. He has worked in a variety of clinical settings involving couples and individuals of all ages, though his main specialty area is marriage and family therapy. Ryan’s clients can expect a warm and compassionate atmosphere with a focus on building a trusting relationship whether the presenting struggles are individual, couple, or family based.

Dr. Tim Sneed, M.S.,PhD is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Provisional Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist-Associate (LMFT-A). Tim received his Master’s degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University and his doctoral degree at the Texas A&M University-Commerce. His main area of specialty is in marriage and family therapy, though he has extensive experience working in variety of clinical settings. Tim has specialized training and extensive experience in creative and expressive therapy, as well as in parent- child relationships.

Travis Trayler

Mr. Travis Trayler, M.S., is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) as well as a Certified School Counselor (CSC). He has worked with children and families for a number of years in the school system. Travis earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and his master’s degree from Texas A&M University – Commerce. He has a vast amount of experience collaborating with, and supporting families and children with academic, social, emotional and behavioral difficulties. His clinical background includes working with adults, children, adolescents, couples and families. Travis uses a wide range of evidence-based and strengths-based approaches with his clients to help them reach their goals and promote integration, well-being and vitality in their personal lives and cultivate deeper and more meaningful relationships.

Mrs. Fariba Abbasi

Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)

Mrs. Fariba Abbasi received her Master’s of Science degree in Clinical Psychotherapy from Johns Hopkins University. Fariba is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). She has over 7 years of mental health experience in a variety of clinical settings. She has worked with clients suffering from depression, attachment disorder, eating disorders, addictions, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and other mental health issues. Fariba has experience working with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families. Her goal is to help clients achieve balance to live a more complete, fulfilled life. Additionally, Fariba has done her research and thesis on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). As a child and adolescent specialist, Fariba has extensive experience working with traumatized youth, young adults, and their families. She uses several treatment modalities in her practice including, but not limited to, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT).

Kim Hekmatyar
Mrs. T. Kim Hekmatyar

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), EMDR Therapist

Mrs. Kim Hekmatyar is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a clinical focus on adults in distress from trauma, abuse, anxiety, depression, phobias, grief, relationship difficulties, or stressful life events. She has counseled adolescents, adults, couples, and families from diverse populations in a variety of settings that include high schools, a youth and family counseling center, and a domestic and sexual violence shelter and crisis center. Kim completed her Master’s degree in Social Work at the University of Texas at Austin. She has undergraduate degrees in Human Development and Family Studies from the University of Houston and Psychology from the University of Texas at Dallas. Kim has advanced training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a psychotherapy treatment approach designed to alleviate distress associated with traumatic memories.

Tannaz Moein

Dr. Tannaz Moein is a Doctor of Psychology. Tannaz received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from University of Texas at Dallas, her Master’s of Science degree in Counseling from Southern Methodist University, and her Doctor of Psychology degree from California Southern University. She works with children, adolescents, adults, couples, families, and the elderly population. Tannaz has gained advanced training in substance dependency and adolescence counseling. As an Adlerian counselor, Tannaz believes people are holistic, phenomenological, creative, teleological, and social. In counseling, she pays close attention to the importance of the complete system of individuals. She believes in experiences, consciousness, and that people are creative and can shape their own personality and have the freedom to affect their destiny. Her approach to counseling is to help clients believe in themselves and develop the capacity for growth through better understanding of their perceptions and beliefs.

Wendy Pierce
Mrs. Wendy M. Pierce

Mrs. Wendy Pierce is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Texas and a National Certified Counselor (NCC) through the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC). She received her Master's in counseling from Liberty University. She completed her graduate and post graduate internships in non-profit and private settings working with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, bariatric programs and non-specialized practice. Wendy works with adolescents (12+) and adults, men and women, individuals, families, and groups. Wendy's specialties include the assessment and outpatient treatment of eating disorders, psychological evaluations, counseling and pre-surgical evaluations for bariatric surgery patients, crisis intervention and trauma/ abuse counseling. Wendy also works with individuals struggling with body image, self-esteem/identity, depression, stress/anxiety, adjustment challenges and personal growth.

Ms. Debra Singleton

Ms. Debra Singleton, M.S., is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Intern, supervised by Dr. Amir Abbassi. She completed her Master's degree in Counseling through Texas Wesleyan University, and her Bachelor's degree from Lubbock Christian University.  Debra has worked with individuals, couples, and families, and also has additional training in utilizing Solution Focused Therapy and Narrative Therapy to help individuals work through depression, anxiety, addiction, grief, trauma, abuse, self-harm, and coping skills. Debra has experience working with clients who have been diagnosed with mental health disorders and with those who are survivors of sexual trauma. She strives to create a non-judgmental, open, and comfortable environment where clients are free to express and find their best selves.

Ms. Jennifer Akins

Ms. Jennifer Akins, M.Ed., is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Certified School Counselor (CSC). Ms. Akins earned her Master’s in Education with a specialty in School Counseling from Dallas Baptist University. She has also worked in the school setting with adolescents and their families for the last ten years. Ms. Akins has experience working with individuals and couples to address issues such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, self-harm, stress management, trauma and abuse, interpersonal concerns, and family relationship struggles, including the unique needs of adoptive and blended families. She has professional interest in the areas of intrapersonal neurobiology and emotional regulation. Ms. Akins provides outpatient counseling to couples and to individuals aged 10 and up.

Ms. Sarah Khan

Ms. Sarah Khan, M.S., is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Intern, supervised by Dr. Amir Abbassi. Sarah completed her Masters in Mental Health Counseling in 2015 through Texas A&M University – Commerce, and is also a graduate of Austin College, where she completed her Bachelors in Psychology. Sarah has extensive experience working in a non-profit setting with adults, adolescents, families, and groups. She utilizes rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT) to help clients work through issues of depression, family violence, domestic abuse, trauma, loss, addiction, anxiety, self-harm, and stress management. Sarah is also EMDR trained. She particularly enjoys working to explore family systems and group dynamics that reinforce behaviors and influence choices. Sarah also has experience in inpatient settings and enjoys working with a wide spectrum of mental health disorders.

Shelly Butler
Ms. Shelly Butler

Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)

Shelly Butler is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, where she received both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Counseling. Shelly spent the past thirteen years working as an adolescent and family therapist, and as a play therapist. Her experience is vast and includes work in residential treatment facilities, foster care, and managed care.  Ms. Butler specializes in cognitive behavioral therapy.  In addressing issues such as depression, anxiety, daily life issues, and poor life choices, Ms. Butler can help you explore and address any problems you are experiencing. By focusing on healthy boundaries and addressing behavioral concerns at home and school, she can help teach children and adolescents necessary social skills.  Shelly is committed to giving her patients a comfortable place and means to talk about their life and any challenges they've encountered. Ms. Butler can help with any issues associated with being a member of a blended or adoptive family. She also works with children and their parents to help the children get through the divorce process.

Ms. Tammi Saffell

Ms. Tammi Saffell received her Bachelor of Science and Interdisciplinary Studies at Texas A&M University – Commerce in May 2010. Tammi has been a part of the administrative staff at New Horizons Center for Healing since June 2014. During her years working at our center she earned her Master’s of Science degree in Counseling at Texas A&M University-Commerce and obtained her licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor-Intern and is supervised by Dr. Amir Abbassi. Her clinical focus is on working with children through play therapy services, as well as working with adolescents and adult individuals facing maladjustments in life. Tammi has had extensive experience working as a College Advisor in the McKinney Independent School District and thus is able to guide and easily navigate adolescents with their career choices and academic struggles.

Mrs. Erin Perry

Office Manager

Mrs. Erin Perry earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Human Biology from the University of Montana.  Her graduate studies were in Molecular Biology at UT Southwestern, followed by earning her Master’s Degree in Business Administration at Westwood College.  Erin Has been part of the administrative staff since October of 2014. She will be happy to assist you with any insurance or billing questions as well as any other concerns you may have. Erin takes great pride in ensuring a positive and enjoyable experience for each and every client at New Horizons.

Ms. Erica Morales

Front Office Associate

Ms. Erica Morales is currently a student at Texas Woman's University. She is pursuing a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology.  Outside of work, Erica enjoys living an adventurous lifestyle that includes travelling to new places as well as thrill seeking activities.  She will be more than happy to assist you with any questions or concerns that you may have.

Ms. Micayla Astrauskas

Front Office Associate

Ms. Micayla Astrauskas joined the staff at New Horizons Center for Healing in March of 2018.  She has prior experience working in the mental health field as well as vast customer service experience.  She will be attending Collin College in the Fall of 2018 to pursue a degree in Mental Health Services.  Micayla would be delighted to assist you with scheduling and ensuring that your experience at our office is a pleasant one.

Mrs. Stacey Riggs

Assistant Manager

Mrs. Stacey Riggs has been with New Horizons since July 2017. She recently moved to Texas from Michigan. Stacey has an extensive background in business and customer service. She attended Grand Rapids Community College where she received her certification in phlebotomy. Stacey will be happy to assist you with your scheduling needs. She also strives to ensure that all clients have a positive experience at our office.
