We want to thank you for trusting New Horizons Center to assist you with your problem. Here’s a little information about what you should know in order to prepare for that first session. Many people are nervous about the first session because they’re not sure what to expect. Fortunately, all of our doctors and therapists are professionals with a great deal of experience helping and caring for individuals just like you. Being a little nervous is natural, as you might have to open yourself up and be a little vulnerable. It’s all part of the healing process, and we are here to help.
Before You Come to Therapy
We highly recommend getting a good night’s sleep the night before your first appointment at our McKinney counseling center. The first visit can be exhausting, as you have to start opening up about whatever your problem is. It is always difficult, and being tired could make it harder on you. Eating a healthy and balanced breakfast can also help, and our McKinney mental health professionals also recommend you try something that relaxes you first, such as a bubble bath. Any preparation that makes you feel comfortable when you come in for counseling services is a good idea.
Your First Visit with Our North Dallas Health Professionals
Once you are here, take a few deep breaths and be ready to share. We want to get to know you. We want your healing to be as easy and pleasant as possible, and that means you will probably want to get to know your McKinney counselor a bit too. Ask us anything, we are happy to share with you, so you start your relationship with your counselor off right.
Group Therapy Counseling Preparation
If you are in group therapy counseling, then you will need to get used to the patients and group members who will be joining you. The group is meant to share thoughts and discuss feelings, which means members must participate and contribute to the group and you must be comfortable. In these groups, a McKinney therapist will facilitate the discussion, and on the first day, the introductions. Getting to know who you are working with is the first step to healing.
These are just a few of the steps to take before you join us for your first North Dallas counseling session. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact us prior to your session. We look forward to working with you.
